Some FAQs

Can I get off at Bathampton?

Yes, you pay a one way fare of £5 on the boat. If you return you pay another £5 on the boat for the return journey.

How long is the trip?

One hour. Half an hour upriver from Pulteney Weir, then it’s another half hour back to Bath where we wait 20 minutes before we start the next one hour round trip.

Do you run throughout the year?

No. Our main cruising season is from Easter to October. Trips may be undertaken outside of these times. However, if the river is flooded or the weather atrocious, no boats will be running.

Which days are there trips?

We cruise seven days a week.

Where can we buy tickets?

There’s no need to buy them in advance. We collect the fares on board. It may be wise to call us to reserve a space for a group. We do not accept cards.

Is there a live commentary?

Yes, after welcoming you on board we leave you in peace to enjoy the trip upriver from Pulteney Bridge, then on the return to Bath we have an informative and (some people think) entertaining commentary.

Can we start the trip at Bathampton?

Yes, you can start the trip from either Bath or Bathampton. You may find it easier to park in Bathampton.

Can I get off the boat and return on a later one?

Yes, as long as there is room on the returning boat.

Can we simply take a one-way trip?

Yes, many people walk back to Bath along the towpath of the Kennet & Avon canal, which is just over two miles and takes you under two delightful early iron footbridges and through Sidney Gardens.

How long can I stay in Bath or Bathampton before catching the return boat ride?

Check with the drivers what time the last trip will be that day.

Do I need to book?

No, parties of under 15 can just turn up.

What about disabled access?

We have room on board for wheelchair passengers provided they can manage, with our assistance, a few steps to board.

Can I bring a pushchair or baby buggy on board the boat?

Yes. We have plenty of room, especially if they fold up.

Is the ride suitable for babies and very young children?

Yes, as long as parents take responsibility for them & keep them with them at all times.

Is there a toilet on board?

Can you accept passengers with special needs?

Yes, we have experience of taking a varied range of groups with many different special needs. Please let us know in advance how we can help.

Do you take school trips?

Yes, we have a lot of experience with all types of schools and foreign language students.

Do you have a written risk assessment?

Yes, we carry out a regular risk assessment and a copy is held on board the vessel at all times. One can be provided in advance of your booking if requested.

Can we bring our own food & drink?

No, there is a galley onboard serving hot & cold drinks.

How do I book a private hire?

Fill in the booking form, payment is requested one month before by bank transfer.
